Biotracker Connections, a platform for high-level management of medications and medical material.

Biotracker is a product designed for the high-level management of medications and medical materials. The product consists of platforms that work together with special refrigerators equipped with an RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) chip reader.

As a first step, we interviewed our clients during a discovery phase to learn about our clients’ workflows and how Biotracker assists them. During this process, we made several key discoveries:

1. Accessing Biotracker interrupts the busy workdays of our clients, especially the sales teams.
2. Predicting hospital supply demand is vital for production planning. A future view of hospital needs allows for advanced material production.
3. The platform's labels and language sometimes led to confusion in the analyses, which was a significant issue.

The Biotracker was a low-cost product initially developed by its founders and team. In 2020, a major Brazilian medical supply company acquired the product and decided to renovate it. Our challenge was to seek improvements for the entire product, focusing on features, technological structure, usability, and visual design.

What are we
designed for?

Biotracker manages medications and medical supplies. It works with refrigerators in hospitals that monitor temperature, expiration date, location, and other details. Biotracker has three virtual platforms, with Biotracker Connections being the main focus. This platform helps manage storage and creates a simple way for suppliers and hospitals to negotiate and manage supply demands. Biotracker prevents wastage and loss of expensive materials and medications.

We improved the platform by revamping the dashboard with predictive storage usage features and adding a new parameterised notifications feature. The dashboard is the main page and we completely redesigned it, making it more user-friendly and including a variety of data without making it difficult to understand.

The Biotracker platform provides advanced analysis capabilities that generate a large amount of data. To make it easier to process this information, we developed a style guide that features rounded shapes and a light font. Our team also created a design system that incorporates green tones that align with the brand guidelines, bringing a modern touch to the platform while ensuring accessibility.

We have added parameterised notifications as a new feature to fulfil the requirements discovered by our clients. This allows them to create notifications with an unlimited range of parameters. We've simplified the process by creating a step-by-step approach that resembles a conversation, making it more user-friendly and reducing complexity. The flow of the notifications was designed to mimic the negotiation conversations that the Biotracker Connections users are used to engaging in.

The interactions were thoughtfully designed to be elegant and refined, while still being easy to use. This not only improves the overall experience but also makes it feel sophisticated and easy to navigate for users.
